The Breaks – Get Saved (2005)
In the first half of the 2000s, St Louis was a powerhouse for fast thrashy hardcore. One of the bands leading the way was The Breaks. Their debut 7”, “Get Saved”, is a unrelenting attack that leaves the listener wondering what just happened, and with six songs clocking in just under six minutes, this record leaves listeners yearning for more. The message is like the music, whereas it is straight and to the point. Their singer uses the band to vent his frustrations with the Religious Right, Social Security and assholes.
Since St. Louis was relatively close to Chicago, I was lucky enough to catch The Breaks a handful of times while theywere around. I’ve posted the record release cover as well the regular cover to the 7”. I highly recommend checking out Firestarter Records and picking up this record, as well as their second 7”, “…are broke.”
