The Freeze/The Bollweevils – A Deadly Duo split 10″

The Freeze/The Bollweevils – A Deadly Duo split 10″ (Dr. Strange, 1996): I picked this thing up because of The Bollweevils and sort of assumed this would be a different Freeze.  However, it is in fact the legendary Boston hardcore band in an iteration that began to play a less hardcore punk influenced, more melodic style.  It fits perfectly with The Bollweevils, a Chicago band that was super prolific during their tenure and, from what I understand, were pretty popular.  Their blend of mid-paced melodic punk with some bursts of hardcore fueled intensity and a vocalist that can really sing makes for a solid, though somewhat dated, listen.  This isn’t my favorite stuff by The Bollweevils (their Chicago EP is really good, as is the Disassembler EP), but it’s still totally worth checking out.  Overall, a cool snapshot of 1996 melodic punk rock from two of the era’s heavyweights.
